Berlin: Solar energy is considered to be one of the cheapest sources of renewable energy and is of utmost importance to tackle the climate crisis.
Recently, researchers have announced a breakthrough in solar
energy, setting a new record for solar cell efficiency.
Solar cell efficiency is the amount of energy a solar cell
makes using sunlight. Technological innovation in the past decade has
dramatically increased this solar cell capacity. But now this achievement is
being hailed as a big step towards clean energy.
Researchers at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB) used a
unique cell technology and generated electricity using 32.5 percent of solar
radiation.
Professor Steve Ulbrecht said that this is a major
development that we could not have seen until a few months ago. All the teams
involved in HZB worked together and achieved success.
He said that perovskite/silicon tandem technology is very
effective for sustainable energy supply which we are excited to know.
According to a statement issued by the university, this
record has been independently verified by the European Solar Test Installation
in Italy.
